Wisdom Teeth Removal At Premier Center

Dr. Garibyan and Dr. Kuang will perform an oral examination during your first visit and take a radiographic scan to view the position and size of your wisdom teeth. Your surgeon will outline your treatment plan, review the procedure, help you select the right anesthesia option, and answer any questions you may have during this visit. Most patients undergo in-office IV sedation for wisdom teeth extraction, but we offer various anesthesia options for any type of oral and maxillofacial surgery procedure.

When undergoing IV sedation, an adult must drive you to your appointment, remain in the office, and take you home afterward. This person should monitor you for 24 hours and assist you while you are still under the effects of anesthesia. Follow your instructions closely for a fast and smooth recovery.

Why Should You Consider Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

Many people do not have room in their mouth for extra molars. You already have molars that chew food, making wisdom teeth unnecessary for oral function. The presence of wisdom teeth can cause pain or pressure in the mouth, which can be alleviated instantly by having them removed. The development of the roots of wisdom teeth are difficult to predict, and can potentially cause damage to adjacent teeth and other anatomical structures.

Untreated wisdom teeth can cause overcrowding and dental shifting, which can change your bite. If wisdom teeth are left untreated, they can damage other teeth and compromise dental alignment. Once a wisdom tooth becomes infected, it can spread to nearby teeth and gum tissues. The presence of wisdom teeth can also be associated with cysts or tumors, which may require additional surgical treatment. You can avoid these complications and protect your dental health by having an oral and maxillofacial surgeon extract your wisdom teeth early.

When they do not have enough room to erupt, wisdom teeth can become trapped beneath the gums, or impacted. An impacted wisdom tooth must be surgically removed because it will not erupt on its own. Some wisdom teeth partially erupt through the gums and become magnets for food and bacteria. Other impacted wisdom teeth may remain fully trapped beneath the gums and develop sideways, pushing against adjacent molars, leading to decay, gum disease, and/or bone loss.

Signs And Symptoms That You Need Wisdom Teeth Removal

Not everyone knows they have wisdom teeth because these molars do not always cause discomfort. Some people develop between 1–4 wisdom teeth, while others develop more than four or none at all.
